Ingredients

Scale
  • 250g salted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 130g icing sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 270g cake flour
  • 70g corn starch
  • 20g milk powder

Instructions

  1. Cream the Butter and Sugar – In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and icing sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add Egg and Vanilla – Mix in the egg and vanilla essence until well incorporated.
  3. Sift and Combine Dry Ingredients – In a separate bowl, sift together the cake flour, corn starch, and milk powder. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, stirring gently to combine.
  4. Chill the Dough – Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to make handling easier.
  5. Preheat Oven – While the dough chills, preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  6. Shape the Cookies – Roll the dough into small balls or pipe into classic Danish butter cookie shapes.
  7. Bake – Arrange the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool and Enjoy – Allow the cookies to cool on the baking tray for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • If you prefer unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the dough.
  • Piping the dough through a star-shaped nozzle gives the cookies their traditional appearance.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
