Description

Churro Cracker Candy is a delicious and easy-to-make sweet treat that combines the flavors of churros with the crunch of saltine crackers, topped with chocolate and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 sleeve (about 1520) saltine crackers
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it gently with a spatula to cover all the crackers.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let sit for a few minutes until the chocolate is melted, then spread it evenly over the caramel layer.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the melted chocolate.
  8. Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
  9. Once set, break the candy into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • For a twist, try adding crushed nuts or toffee bits on top of the chocolate before it sets.
  • You can also substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with white chocolate or milk chocolate for a different flavor profile.
