Description
A creamy and flavorful Southern-style coleslaw that combines shredded cabbage and carrots with a tangy dressing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 small head green cabbage, shredded (about 6 cups)
- 2 large carrots, grated
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and grated carrots. Toss them together until evenly mixed.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, celery seed, salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss everything together until the vegetables are fully coated with the dressing.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld. For best results, chill for 2-4 hours.
- Before serving, give the coleslaw a good stir and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Notes
- For a tangier flavor, add an extra tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Mix in some diced apples or raisins for a sweet twist, or add chopped jalapeños for a spicy kick.
