This Crispy Potato & Savory Ground Beef Delight is a flavor-packed dish that brings together golden, crispy grated potatoes and seasoned ground beef for a meal that is both hearty and satisfying. Perfect as a main course or a side dish, this recipe is easy to make and perfect for busy weeknights. Serve it warm with your favorite sauce or a dollop of sour cream for extra indulgence!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 medium potatoes (600-750g / 2126 oz), peeled and grated
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (16g)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower oil
  • ½ pound ground beef (225g)
  • 1 medium onion (150g), diced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Grate the potatoes and squeeze out excess moisture using a clean kitchen towel. Mix with cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook the Beef: In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil and sauté the diced onion until soft. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Assemble the Dish: In another pan, heat the remaining oil. Spread half of the grated potato mixture in the pan, pressing it down. Add the cooked beef mixture on top, then cover with the remaining potatoes.
  4. Pan-Fry to Perfection: Cook over medium heat for 6-8 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve & Enjoy: Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with sour cream, ketchup, or a side of fresh salad.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, let the grated potatoes sit for 5 minutes before squeezing out moisture.
  • Try different seasonings, such as smoked paprika or garlic powder, for a flavor twist.
  • Make it cheesy by adding a layer of shredded cheddar or mozzarella between the potatoes and beef.
  • For a healthier option, bake in the oven at 200°C (400°F) for 25-30 minutes instead of pan-frying.
