Ingredients
-
1½ cups water (or chicken broth for more flavor)
-
2 packets chicken gravy mix
-
1¼ cups condensed cream of chicken soup (do not dilute)
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
½ teaspoon kosher salt
-
½ teaspoon paprika
-
¼ teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
-
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 pound total)
-
½ cup sour cream
Instructions
-
Season the chicken breasts on both sides with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
-
In the slow cooker, whisk together the water (or broth), gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, paprika, and remaining salt and pepper until smooth.
-
Place the seasoned chicken into the slow cooker and flip to fully coat with the gravy mixture.
-
Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
-
Remove the chicken and shred or slice it as preferred.
-
Stir the sour cream into the gravy in the slow cooker until smooth and creamy.
-
Return the chicken to the slow cooker or serve the gravy spooned over the chicken.
-
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, or even thick-cut toast.
Notes
-
-
Using chicken broth instead of water enhances the savory depth of the gravy.
-
For extra richness, add a tablespoon of butter when whisking the gravy base.
-
Leftovers reheat beautifully and make a great next-day sandwich or wrap.
-
You can swap chicken breasts for thighs if you prefer darker meat.
