Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups water (or chicken broth for more flavor)

  • 2 packets chicken gravy mix

  • 1¼ cups condensed cream of chicken soup (do not dilute)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • ¼ teaspoon coarse ground black pepper

  • 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 pound total)

  • ½ cup sour cream

Instructions

  • Season the chicken breasts on both sides with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  • In the slow cooker, whisk together the water (or broth), gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, paprika, and remaining salt and pepper until smooth.

  • Place the seasoned chicken into the slow cooker and flip to fully coat with the gravy mixture.

  • Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

  • Remove the chicken and shred or slice it as preferred.

  • Stir the sour cream into the gravy in the slow cooker until smooth and creamy.

  • Return the chicken to the slow cooker or serve the gravy spooned over the chicken.

  • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, or even thick-cut toast.

Notes

    • Using chicken broth instead of water enhances the savory depth of the gravy.

    • For extra richness, add a tablespoon of butter when whisking the gravy base.

    • Leftovers reheat beautifully and make a great next-day sandwich or wrap.

    • You can swap chicken breasts for thighs if you prefer darker meat.
