Description
A delicious and hearty Smashburger Salad that combines the flavors of a classic burger with fresh salad ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup pickles, sliced
- 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup burger sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 avocado, diced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and form into balls. Place the balls in the hot skillet and smash them down with a spatula to form patties. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until browned, then flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare the salad base. In a large serving bowl, combine the chopped romaine, cherry tomatoes, pickles, red onion, and shredded cheddar cheese.
- Once the burgers are cooked, remove them from the skillet and let them rest for a minute. Cut each patty into bite-sized pieces and add to the salad.
- Drizzle the burger sauce over the salad and gently toss to combine. Top with diced avocado before serving.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef and use Greek yogurt mixed with ketchup as a healthier burger sauce.
- Add crispy bacon bits or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and texture in the salad.
