Description

A delicious and hearty Smashburger Salad that combines the flavors of a classic burger with fresh salad ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup pickles, sliced
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup burger sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 avocado, diced

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and form into balls. Place the balls in the hot skillet and smash them down with a spatula to form patties. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until browned, then flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
  3. While the burgers are cooking, prepare the salad base. In a large serving bowl, combine the chopped romaine, cherry tomatoes, pickles, red onion, and shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Once the burgers are cooked, remove them from the skillet and let them rest for a minute. Cut each patty into bite-sized pieces and add to the salad.
  5. Drizzle the burger sauce over the salad and gently toss to combine. Top with diced avocado before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef and use Greek yogurt mixed with ketchup as a healthier burger sauce.
  • Add crispy bacon bits or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and texture in the salad.
