  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs

Creamy Pudding Layers:

  • 2 (3.4-ounce) packages vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • Blue & pink food coloring

Whipped Topping:

  • 1 (16-ounce) container Cool Whip (thawed)

Festive Decorations:

  • Edible candy grass (green, pink, and blue)
  • Easter egg candies (Whoppers Robin Eggs, Cadbury Eggs, large jellybeans, or similar)

Instructions

  1. Bake and Cut the Cake
    • Bake the cake according to package instructions, using parchment paper for easy removal.
    • Let it cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
    • Once fully cooled, cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Prepare the Pudding
    • Make the pudding following package directions, keeping each batch in a separate bowl.
    • Add a few drops of blue food coloring to one bowl and pink food coloring to the other, adjusting for desired pastel shades.
  3. Assemble the Layers
    • Place half of the cake cubes at the bottom of a trifle dish, filling gaps tightly.
    • Spoon the blue pudding over the cake, then add 2 cups of whipped topping.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, pink pudding, and the rest of the whipped topping.
    • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Create the Candy Bird Nests
    • Roll small bundles of edible candy grass tightly into nest shapes (2 of each color).
    • Before serving, place 6 nests on top of the trifle, adding 3 candy eggs in each.
  5. Serve and Enjoy!
    • Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Best enjoyed within 3 days.

Notes

  • Make it ahead! This trifle tastes even better after a full day in the fridge.
  • Switch up the colors! Try pastel yellow or lavender pudding for variety.
  • Use homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip for a fresher taste.
  • Swap cake flavors – white cake, yellow cake, or even chocolate cake work well!
