Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a large mixing bowl with flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in the mixing bowl until well combined.
  3. Add the chopped herbs and shredded cheese, mixing gently until evenly distributed.
  4. Pour the buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a couple of times.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf about 7 inches in diameter, scoring a cross about ½ inch deep on top.
  7. Transfer to a floured baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 375°F (190°C) for another 30 to 35 minutes.
  8. Cool the bread wrapped in a tea towel for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Wrap the bread in a tea towel as it cools to maintain softness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for a month.
