Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a large mixing bowl with flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in the mixing bowl until well combined.
- Add the chopped herbs and shredded cheese, mixing gently until evenly distributed.
- Pour the buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until just combined; avoid overmixing.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a couple of times.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf about 7 inches in diameter, scoring a cross about ½ inch deep on top.
- Transfer to a floured baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 375°F (190°C) for another 30 to 35 minutes.
- Cool the bread wrapped in a tea towel for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Wrap the bread in a tea towel as it cools to maintain softness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for a month.
