Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 sleeve about 15-20 saltine crackers
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it gently with a spatula to cover all the crackers.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let sit for a few minutes until the chocolate is melted, then spread it evenly over the caramel layer.
  • In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the melted chocolate.
  • Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
  • Once set, break the candy into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • For a twist, try adding crushed nuts or toffee bits on top of the chocolate before it sets.
  • You can also substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with white chocolate or milk chocolate for a different flavor profile.
