Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides the perfect structure for your rolls.
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Yeast Leavens the dough beautifully; ensure it’s not expired for best results.
  • 1 cup Warm Milk Adds moisture and richness; for a vegan option, use almond or oat milk.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Enhances flavor and creates a tender texture; melted and warm works best.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar Sweetens your rolls; substitute with brown sugar for a deeper flavor profile.
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon The star spice that gives these rolls their irresistible flavor.
  • 1 large Egg Binds everything together for a soft and fluffy texture; swap with a flax egg for a vegan alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Balances sweetness and enhances flavor.
For the Coating
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar Coats the outside for that signature crispy sweetness.
  • Optional Spices Mix in cayenne for a hint of heat or sea salt to elevate flavors.

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, fresh yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, warm the milk until it's comfortable to the touch, then mix in melted butter and the egg.
  3. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours until it has doubled in size.
  5. After rising, punch the dough down gently, then roll it out into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
  6. Spread a generous layer of melted butter across the surface, then sprinkle an even mixture of sugar and ground cinnamon over the top.
  7. Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log shape and pinch the seams to seal.
  8. Cut the log into equal pieces, about 1-2 inches thick, and arrange them cut-side down in a greased baking dish.
  9. Cover the baking dish with a clean kitchen towel and allow the rolls to rise again for 20-30 minutes.
  10. While the rolls are rising, prepare the crispy coating by mixing granulated sugar with your chosen optional spices.
  11. Once the rolls have risen, gently roll each piece in the sugar mixture to coat thoroughly.
  12. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the coated rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  13. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Store the rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat briefly in the oven for the best texture.
