Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, fresh yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, warm the milk until it's comfortable to the touch, then mix in melted butter and the egg.
- Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours until it has doubled in size.
- After rising, punch the dough down gently, then roll it out into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
- Spread a generous layer of melted butter across the surface, then sprinkle an even mixture of sugar and ground cinnamon over the top.
- Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log shape and pinch the seams to seal.
- Cut the log into equal pieces, about 1-2 inches thick, and arrange them cut-side down in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the baking dish with a clean kitchen towel and allow the rolls to rise again for 20-30 minutes.
- While the rolls are rising, prepare the crispy coating by mixing granulated sugar with your chosen optional spices.
- Once the rolls have risen, gently roll each piece in the sugar mixture to coat thoroughly.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the coated rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Store the rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat briefly in the oven for the best texture.
