- 2 ripe plantains
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder optional
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika optional
Peel the plantains by cutting off the ends and making a lengthwise slit in the skin. Carefully remove the peel.
Slice the plantains diagonally into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot.
Add the plantain slices to the skillet in a single layer. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika if using.
Serve warm as a snack or side dish.
- For a sweeter version, use very ripe plantains and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar after frying.
- Try adding a squeeze of lime juice over the fried plantains for a zesty flavor boost.
