Step-by-Step Instructions for Tofu Fried Chicken
- Freeze the tofu overnight, then thaw for at least 30 minutes. Press gently to remove excess moisture.
- Cut the tofu into cubes and marinate in vegan chicken broth for at least 15 minutes.
- Mix soy milk, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce in a bowl and let sit for 10 minutes to thicken.
- Whisk together flour, cornstarch, cornmeal, oregano, Creole seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black and white pepper.
- Heat oil in a skillet to 370°F (187°C) for frying.
- Dip marinated tofu in buttermilk and then coat with the dry breading mixture. Repeat for extra crunch if desired.
- Fry the breaded tofu cubes in batches for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze unbattered tofu cubes for up to 2 months.
