Ingredients

For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour Feel free to use all-purpose flour for a gluten-rich version.
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder Make sure it’s fresh for the best rise.
  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust to your taste preference.
  • 3/4 cups Almond Milk Substitute with any milk of your choice.
For the Gravy
  • 1 lb Turkey Sausage Can swap for pork sausage if preferred.
  • 1/4 cups Maple Syrup Honey works well as a substitute too.
  • 1 tsp Pepper Adjust to achieve your desired spice level.
  • 1/4 cups Whole Wheat Flour Used to thicken your gravy.

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Wooden Spoon
  • oven
  • baking sheet
  • Skillet

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt, whisking together until well mixed. Gradually pour in almond milk, mixing with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
  2. On a floured surface, gently knead the biscuit dough for a few seconds, then pat it to about 1-inch thick. Use a round cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake the biscuits in your preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes until they are golden brown on top.
  4. While the biscuits bake, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add turkey sausage, cooking thoroughly until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. In the same skillet, sprinkle in whole wheat flour while stirring for about 1 minute to form a roux. Slowly whisk in almond milk and maple syrup, stirring continuously until smooth and thick, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Once the biscuits are baked, split them open and ladle the warm maple sausage gravy over the biscuits. Serve immediately.

Notes

Avoid overmixing for tender biscuits. Adjust seasonings to taste while cooking.
