Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Step 1: Prepare Baking Sheet - Grease a large baking sheet with a thin layer of butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Step 2: Combine Ingredients - In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of white sugar, 1/4 cup of corn starch, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1/2 cup of light corn syrup, and 1/2 cup of water. Stir over low heat until fully blended.
  3. Step 3: Heat Mixture - Increase heat to medium, stirring until the mixture reaches a boil. Monitor temperature with a candy thermometer.
  4. Step 4: Flavor & Color - Once the mixture reaches desired temperature, stir in food coloring and flavoring oil.
  5. Step 5: Cool and Pull - Pour the hot mixture onto the greased baking sheet. Cool slightly until warm to the touch, then pull the taffy until smooth and satiny.
  6. Step 6: Shape and Cut - Roll into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick and cut into bite-sized pieces using buttered scissors.
  7. Step 7: Store and Enjoy - Store in an airtight container. Letting it rest improves the texture.

Notes

Ensure you have a precise candy thermometer to achieve the right temperature and avoid sticky taffy by letting it rest if necessary.
