Preparation
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
- Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then incorporate brown sugar and cinnamon until smooth.
- Pour the caramel mixture into a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
- Arrange the apple wedges over the caramel in a circular pattern.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in one bowl. In another, cream sugar and eggs, then stir in vanilla and milk before combining wet and dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter over the apples in the pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes.
- Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
