Ingredients
  

  • 10 g dry yeast
  • 10 g sugar
  • 200 ml warm water
  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • 100 g grated cheese cheddar, Gruyère, or preferred choice
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp sour cream

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Dough
  2. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add flour, salt, olive oil, and egg. Knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Caramelize the Onions
  5. Heat a pan over medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil.
  6. Add sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown (about 15-20 minutes).
  7. Mix in black pepper, paprika, and dried thyme. Set aside to cool.
  8. Assemble the Onion Cake
  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  10. Roll out the dough into a rectangular or circular shape and place it on a lined baking sheet.
  11. Spread sour cream evenly over the dough, then top with caramelized onions and grated cheese.
  12. Bake to Perfection
  13. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
