Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Basmati rice Rinsed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 cup Tomato puree Use fresh or canned
  • 1 large Onion Chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee or butter For sautéing
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper

Method
 

  1. In a large pot, heat ghee or butter over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in the tomato puree, salt, turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Add the soaked and rinsed basmati rice, and water, stirring well.
  6. Cover the pot and reduce heat to low, cooking for about 20 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and let the rice sit covered for 5 minutes before serving.
