Get ready to impress not just your neighbors but everyone who gets a taste of this incredible potato roll! It’s a simple yet utterly delicious dinner option that combines the heartiness of potatoes with a flavorful beef filling. Here’s how to whip up this culinary masterpiece.

Ingredients:

For the Potato Layer:
  • Potatoes: 3 large (about 900g)
  • Cheddar Cheese: 300g, grated
  • Vegetable Oil: 2 tablespoons (20ml)
  • Salt: 4g
For the Beef Filling:
  • Ground Beef: 500g
  • Vegetable Oil: 2 tablespoons (20ml)
  • Onion: 1, finely chopped
  • Green Peppers: 3, diced
  • Red Pepper: 1, diced
  • Garlic Cloves: 3, minced
  • Tomato Sauce: 2 tablespoons (25g)
  • Tomato Paste: 1 teaspoon (20g)
  • Seasonings: Paprika, black pepper, cumi

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare Potatoes:
    • Begin by preheating your oven to 200°C (392°F). Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds. Toss them in a bowl with 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and 4g of salt, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  2. Layer and Bake:
    • Arrange the potato slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until they are tender and slightly golden.
  3. Prepare the Beef Filling:
    • While the potatoes are baking, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, green and red peppers, and minced garlic. Sauté until soft.
    • Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
    • Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and season with paprika, black pepper, cumin, thyme, and salt. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley.
  4. Assemble the Potato Roll:
    • Once the potatoes are done, let them cool slightly. On a clean surface, lay out the potato slices overlapping each other to create a rectangular shape on a piece of parchment paper.
    • Spread the beef filling evenly over the potato layer, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese on top of the beef filling.
  5. Roll and Bake Again:
    • Carefully lift the edge of the parchment paper to roll the potatoes over the filling, similar to rolling a sushi roll. Ensure the roll is tight and secure.
    • Place the potato roll, seam side down, back onto the baking sheet. Bake in the oven at 200°C for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Let the potato roll cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, garnished with additional parsley if desired.

This potato roll is not just a treat to the taste buds but also a feast for the eyes, making it the perfect dish to make your dinner special. Enjoy the blend of flavors and textures that come together in this delightful recipe.
