Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • 12 slices of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or mozzarella)
  • 6 slices of cooked sausage (thinly sliced or diced)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  • Layer the Bread & Fillings: Place 3 slices of bread in the dish, add 6 slices of cheese and all of the sausage, then top with the remaining bread and cheese.
  • Make the Egg Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, garlic powder, black pepper, and paprika until smooth.
  • Pour & Let It Soak: Evenly pour the egg mixture over the layered bread, pressing gently to help it absorb. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Bake Until Golden: Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  • Garnish & Serve: Let cool slightly before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, add a sprinkle of grated Parmesan or breadcrumbs on top before baking.
  • Swap out the sausage for bacon, ham, or a vegetarian alternative like sautéed mushrooms.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • To make it ahead, assemble the dish the night before and bake fresh in the morning.
  • Serve with a side of fresh fruit or a simple salad for a well-balanced meal.
